Reiki is a Japanese technique developed by Mikao Usui has been around for centuries. It is an art of energy healing forgotten and then rediscovered in Japan. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words Rei which means "Higher Power or God's Wisdom" and Ki which means "Life Force Energy". Reiki is a Universal loving light energy. It cannot harm anyone in any way. The use of this energy does not depend on the practitioner's intellectual, educational or spiritual development, and therefore during the sessions the client is not affected by the practitioner in any way. The practitioner acts as a "transmitter" of the Universal energy to the client by placing hands on the client's body at proper places and in some sequence.
Reiki is a great technique to reduce stress and promote relaxation which in turn promotes healing of the Mind, Body and Soul. We cannot separate Mind, Body and Soul. They are part of us. We cannot achieve physical health without emotional health and vice versa. Our Soul which is "Life Force Energy" is inseparable from our Mind and our Body. Reiki works on the principal that physical and emotional problems are related, so these problems must be treated simultaneously. Its goal is to help the entire body heal itself.

Reiki is somewhat spiritual in nature, but it is not a religion. It has no dogma and there is nothing you have to believe in to use Reiki or to learn it. Since Reiki i snot dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not.
